Monthly Board Meeting

Board meetings are held the second Thursday of each month, September through June. We meet at Gullifty’s at 6:30 p.m. We often have a special meeting or two during the summer. All members are welcome. The board currently has open seats that we would like to fill. You can also help run events or otherwise get involved.

Gullifty's is located off Interstate 83 south, the Cedar Cliff exit, the first exit south of the "York Split". Turn right at the traffic light and turn right into the Cedar Cliff Mall entrance. Gullifty's is located about 200 yards on your left. The TV Tailgate Parties and Happy Hours will be located downstairs. For more specific directions call Gullifty's at 761-6692.

PSU Men's Basketball, Nittany Lions vs. the Fighting Illini

Join us for a Basketball trip to State College to cheer on the men's basketball team. This is the first basketball trip in about six years and only a few seats are left. So do not delay in getting seats on the bus. The bus will leave for State college at 12:00 noon and return to Harrisburg immediately following the game. You will have the afternoon on your own in town (the "Keller" maybe.) Tip off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. The cost was just reduced to $40 for members and $45 for non members. R.S.V.P. Chapter Service Project at Downtown Daily Bread

Chapter members served local people in need at Downtown Daily Bread Wednesday, March 26 through Friday March 28th. (Yes, we know these days were not during Service week, but they are close.) Our members assisted the DDB staff and members of a local church with 305 meals. Thanks go out to volunteers and our coordinator Robert Knepp for serving those in need. Hockey Night with the Hershey Bears

The Hershey Bears will be taking on the Manchester Monarchs on March 30th at 5:00 p.m. The game will be in the Giant Center, 100 Hersheypark Drive, Hershey. Seating will be on the first level. Tickets will be $14.00 for members, $16.50 for nonmembers, children under 12 of members will be free. Seating is limited so be sure to get your form and check in by March 4th.

Be sure to clearly include all of your contact information on the form. Checks must be made payable to “Penn State Alumni Association, Harrisburg Chapter”. Tickets will be mailed to you when the payment is received.

Christmas / Holiday Party, December 6, 6:30 –

What a party, about 30 met downtown and upstairs at McGrath's pub to unwind and relax for the holidays. The Penn State spirit is well as we enjoyed the charming venue and one another's company. The h'ors d'oeuvres were quite good and many will want to return next year to this venue.

16th ANNUAL PENN STATE HARRISBURG CHAPTER
SCHOLARSHIP GOLF TOURNAMENT

The tournament will be at the Armitage Golf course on Friday, June 6, 2008. This promises to be a great tournament at a new venue for the Chapter. John Bove, Director of Athletics Compliance for the 29 intercollegiate sports sponsored by Penn State and chair of the Penn State Professional Sports Counseling program for prospective professional athletes will be the after dinner speaker.

Please contact Joe Bowker if you would like to sponsor the tournament or to volunteer to assist with organization and coordination of the event. It is an exciting event to plan and rewarding after it's success. But we need committed volunteers.

We are again asking our area supporters and businesses for hole sponsorships and/or prize donations. Each donor will be recognized at the dinner following the tournament, in the tournament program, on our chapter Web site, and in the chapter’s fall newsletter, which reaches over 10,000 local alumni. If you sponsored the golf tournament in recent years, you will receive a letter with the details. Please plan to sponsor the event.

Proceeds from the tournament go towards the scholarship fund that provides awards to selected incoming freshmen from Dauphin and Cumberland counties. Currently two awards a year are made based upon a competitive essay. The Chapter goal is to increase the number or scholarships offered and/or increase the amount of each to assist with rising tuition costs.
