![]() Scholarship Endowment In June of 1992, the Harrisburg Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association accepted the challenge to endow a scholarship with the University. This commitment required the Harrisburg Chapter to invest $15,000 within a five-year period. This scholarship became fully endowed in 1996 and the first two scholarships for $500 each were awarded in 1997. Since 2001 the Harrisburg Chapter has awarded two $1,000 scholarships annually to incoming Penn State freshmen from Dauphin and/or Cumberland counties. The scholarship money was raised through a variety of events including: Chapter members volunteering their time to act as jurors in mock trials at Widener University School of Law; the annual Chapter golf tournament sponsorships and the generous contributions of our Chapter members. The scholarship recipients are selected based on student essays and letters of recommendation that best address the student's success and leadership qualities. A review committee comprised of selected chapter board members reviews, rates and ranks all applications and the entire Board selects the final recipients based on the ratings and ranks provided by the review committee. To date, the following students have received the Harrisburg Chapter's Scholarship award: 2009 - $1500
Sharleen Chidiac, Central Dauphin High School 2008 - $1000
Anna Muzio, Central Dauphin High School 2007
Andrea Leshak, Lower Dauphin High School, 2006

The Harrisburg Chapter has established certain eligibility criteria with the Office of Student Aid, University Park. The Office of Student Aid sends a list of eligible students to the Harrisburg Chapter who then uses that list to mail out application packets. This process begins around March/April each year. If a student meets the established criteria, then they will automatically be mailed a packet.
